Scopia Surgical, a Montréal-based medtech startup, closed a CAD $2.65 million seed round to develop and clinically validate its GPS‑like navigation software for robotic surgery platforms. The round was led by BDC Capital’s Healthcare Venture Fund and Real Ventures, with participation from Anges Québec and Fondaction. The capital will fund software engineering, regulatory work toward FDA 510(k) and Health Canada SaMD clearance, and pilot trials in three Québec hospitals: CHU Sainte‑Justine, McGill University Health Centre, and the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal.

The company previously secured a CAD $1.2 million grant from Québec’s Innovatech program. Scopia’s software fuses intra‑operative sensor data with pre‑op imaging to provide real‑time instrument tracking, aiming to work with existing systems such as Medtronic’s Mazor X and Stryker’s Mako. Founders say the technology could reduce reliance on costly fluoroscopy and shorten procedure times by up to 20%.
